I believe strongly in the connection between mind and body. Call it holistic wellness, psychoneuroimmunology (what a mouthful!), or pain science - current research all points to a dynamic relationship between our mental health, the nervous system, and how we experience our physical bodies. This is why I believe it’s essential to create a treatment space that feels safe and relaxing – a place where you can find ease, so your mind and body can both unwind. You can expect our time together to include some element of relaxation, whether that looks like breathwork, guided imagery, craniosacral modalities, or dermoneuromodulation. The body is constantly working to maintain a state of homeostasis – a delicate balance. Each input to the body impacts that balance, from the food we eat, to the physical demands of our daily lives, and our emotional stressors. At the risk of oversimplifying, the basic premise is this: the greater the intensity of an input, the more energy the body must expend to return to its balanced state. I favour lighter techniques, so the body has “less distance to cover” to restore homeostasis. My goal is to help ease discomfort and promote healing while minimizing inflammation and microtrauma – tissue states that can lead to aches and pains after treatment. For clients who have benefitted from craniosacral treatment in the past, I offer appointments for this modality exclusively.
***Please note that I do not offer what is commonly referred to as “deep tissue” massage. If you are seeking a sensation of very deep or heavy pressure, I have some amazing colleagues here on the coast who can support you in creating that experience.***
The details: My career in healthcare began in 2009, when I founded Flourishing Family Doula Care. My work included teaching prenatal classes, attending home and hospital births, providing prenatal and postpartum care, and offering breastfeeding counselling. I primarily worked with high-risk, vulnerable families. In 2013, I transitioned to laboratory work in both hospital and outpatient settings. Through this career, I gained experience in trauma rooms, palliative care, intensive care, and psychiatric units. My patients ranged from neonatal to geriatric, and all age groups between. Working in the hospital, I witnessed the profound impact of even a brief moment of therapeutic touch; this led me to embark on the inspiring career change that has brought me to today. I hope to see you here!
